Tender Sliced Beef and Sweet Onions in a Savory Chinese-Style Sauce
A quick and easy Chinese-style stir-fry featuring tender sliced beef and caramelized onions in a savory sauce
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin
- 2 onions
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine or dry sherry
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- green onions
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, cornstarch, and black pepper. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a hot wok or skillet over high heat.
- Add beef slices and stir-fry for 1–2 minutes until just browned. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining oil to the wok, then add onions and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until softened and lightly caramelized.
- Add garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return beef to the wok and pour in the sauce.
- Toss everything together and cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and onions.
- Garnish with green onions and serve hot with steamed rice.
