Tender Sliced Beef and Sweet Onions in a Savory Chinese-Style Sauce

A quick and easy Chinese-style stir-fry featuring tender sliced beef and caramelized onions in a savory sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine or dry sherry
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • green onions

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, cornstarch, and black pepper. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a hot wok or skillet over high heat.
  3. Add beef slices and stir-fry for 1–2 minutes until just browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add remaining oil to the wok, then add onions and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until softened and lightly caramelized.
  5. Add garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Return beef to the wok and pour in the sauce.
  7. Toss everything together and cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and onions.
  8. Garnish with green onions and serve hot with steamed rice.
