Crispy fried chicken nuggets made from ground chicken with homemade breadcrumb coating

ChickenFried

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • cumin
  • mustard powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • pepper
  • slices bread
  • 2 eggs
  • panko breadcrumbs
  • high temperature oil

Instructions

  1. Take one pound of ground chicken and add garlic powder, cumin, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well, being generous with spices as some flavor gets lost during frying.
  2. Take a few slices of bread, cut off the crusts, and blend them into breadcrumbs using a blender or food processor.
  3. Add the breadcrumbs to the chicken mixture and mix thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Place the chicken mixture on an oiled cutting board and smooth it out into a sheet to your desired nugget thickness.
  5. Cut the chicken sheet into strips, then cut those strips into nugget-sized pieces.
  6. Shape each piece into individual nuggets by hand, oiling your hands as needed.
  7. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw chicken.
  8. Scramble 2 eggs in a bowl.
  9. Dip each chicken nugget in the egg mixture using a fork to avoid getting your hands too messy.
  10. Coat each egg-dipped nugget in a separate bowl of panko breadcrumbs, patting gently to ensure full coverage.
  11. Set coated nuggets aside on a plate.
  12. Heat high-temperature oil in a pan to medium or slightly below medium heat.
  13. Using tongs, carefully place nuggets into the hot oil.
  14. Fry for approximately 2 minutes on the first side until crispy and brown.
  15. Carefully flip each nugget away from you and fry the other side until crispy and brown.
  16. Ensure internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit for food safety.
  17. Transfer cooked nuggets to a wire rack to cool.
