Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake
A hearty and comforting casserole combining classic Swedish meatballs with creamy pasta, perfect for weeknight dinners
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or pork
- 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
- 0.25 cup onion
- 1 egg
- 0.5 tsp allspice
- 0.5 tsp nutmeg
- salt
- pepper
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cup beef broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 12 oz egg noodles or pasta shells
- parsley
Instructions
- Combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, grated onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Roll the mixture into small balls and brown them in a skillet over medium heat.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour.
- Gradually add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps and let the mixture simmer until thickened.
- Stir in sour cream to create a creamy sauce.
- Boil egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked noodles with the creamy sauce.
- Transfer the noodle mixture into a greased baking dish and arrange the browned meatballs on top.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for 10 more minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Sprinkle fresh parsley on top and serve warm.
