Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef
  • 1 whole onion
  • 3 tbsp neutral oil
  • 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2.5 whole tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 0.5 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 0.5 tsp hot red chili powder
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 3 whole green chilies
  • 2.5 whole golden potatoes
  • 0.25 cup cilantro

Instructions

  1. Heat neutral oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in ginger garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring well to combine.
  6. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, turmeric, Kashmiri red chili powder, hot red chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  7. Add green chilies and stir to coat the meat with the spice mixture.
  8. Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 30-40 minutes until the beef is tender.
  9. Add cubed potatoes and stir gently to combine.
  10. Cover and continue cooking for another 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cooked through.
  11. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  12. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or bread.
