Aloo Gosht
Aloo Gosht is the ultimate Pakistani comfort food featuring tender beef cubes cooked with potatoes in a rich, aromatic tomato-based curry. Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef
- 1 whole onion
- 3 tbsp neutral oil
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 2.5 whole tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 0.5 tbsp cumin powder
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
- 0.5 tsp hot red chili powder
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 3 whole green chilies
- 2.5 whole golden potatoes
- 0.25 cup cilantro
Instructions
- Heat neutral oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in ginger garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring well to combine.
- Add coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, turmeric, Kashmiri red chili powder, hot red chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Add green chilies and stir to coat the meat with the spice mixture.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 30-40 minutes until the beef is tender.
- Add cubed potatoes and stir gently to combine.
- Cover and continue cooking for another 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cooked through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or bread.
