Nando's Peri Peri Chicken Recipe

This copycat Nando's Peri Peri Chicken recipe, created by Meghna, tastes just like the restaurant favorite and is made with homemade Peri Peri Sauce. This Portuguese-style chicken is extremely easy to make and works perfectly as either a spicy appetizer or impressive main course. Enjoy this tangy, delicious South African Piri Piri Chicken at home without requiring an oven or grill.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 pounds Chicken drumsticks and thighs on the bones
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup Homemade Peri Peri Sauce
  • 3 tbsp Olive oil
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Take the chicken drumsticks and thighs in a clean dry bowl. You may use skinless chicken pieces or chicken pieces with skin.
  2. Slash each piece of the chicken diagonally a few times, about 2-3 slashes per piece depending on their sizes.
  3. Add salt, paprika, and lemon juice to the chicken pieces and give them a good rub.
  4. Next, add the homemade peri peri sauce and rub well so that the chicken pieces are well coated with the marinade.
  5. Cover the bowl with cling film and pop it in the fridge. Allow the marinated chicken to rest for at least 3-4 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Over medium heat, set an iron skillet grill and brush with olive oil. Arrange the chicken pieces, shaking off excess marinade without overcrowding. Cook them, rotating side to side after a few minutes, until fully cooked, approximately 30 minutes. Brush with olive oil or drizzle oil on the skillet while cooking.
  7. Serve hot. Garnish with more peri peri sauce or use any leftover sauce as a dip.
