Ingredients

  • 1 cup Coarse sea salt
  • 4 Fresh jalapeño peppers
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Lime zest

Instructions

  1. Prep the Peppers: Rough chop the jalapeños. If you want a milder salt, remove the seeds and white pith; for maximum heat, keep them in.
  2. Infuse: Place the chopped peppers and the sea salt into a food processor. Pulse until the peppers are finely minced and the salt has turned a vibrant green. It should look like wet sand.
  3. Season: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, and lime zest until evenly distributed.
  4. The Drying Process: Spread the salt mixture in a thin, even layer onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Air Dry: Leave it out on the counter for 12–24 hours until completely dry. Alternatively, use the Oven Dry method: Place in the oven at the lowest setting (around 170°F or 75°C) for 1 hour, stirring occasionally until crisp.
  6. Store: Once dry, break up any clumps with a fork and transfer to an airtight glass jar. Store in a cool, dark place.
