Homemade Jalapeño Salt
This vibrant Homemade Jalapeño Salt is the ultimate kitchen sidekick that transforms ordinary dishes with bright, garden-fresh jalapeño flavor and a slow-burn heat. Perfect for rimming margaritas, seasoning grilled corn, or elevating popcorn, this homemade seasoning blend brings citrusy undertones and a 'Nova' brightness to every meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Coarse sea salt
- 4 Fresh jalapeño peppers
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp Onion powder
- 0.5 tsp Lime zest
Instructions
- Prep the Peppers: Rough chop the jalapeños. If you want a milder salt, remove the seeds and white pith; for maximum heat, keep them in.
- Infuse: Place the chopped peppers and the sea salt into a food processor. Pulse until the peppers are finely minced and the salt has turned a vibrant green. It should look like wet sand.
- Season: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, and lime zest until evenly distributed.
- The Drying Process: Spread the salt mixture in a thin, even layer onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Air Dry: Leave it out on the counter for 12–24 hours until completely dry. Alternatively, use the Oven Dry method: Place in the oven at the lowest setting (around 170°F or 75°C) for 1 hour, stirring occasionally until crisp.
- Store: Once dry, break up any clumps with a fork and transfer to an airtight glass jar. Store in a cool, dark place.
